    Biography Of Harriet Tubman Essay

    1646 words – 7 pages

    Biography of Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman was born in 1820 on a large plantation in Dorchester County,

Maryland. She was the sixth of eleven children. She was born in a very

small on-room log hut, that was located behind her families owners house.

The huthad a dirt floor, no windows, and no furniture. Her fater, Benjamin

Ross, and mother, Harriet Green, were both slaves. They were from the

Ashanti ribe of West Africa. Edward Brodas, Harriet’s owner, hired her out

as a laborer by the age of five.

The buying and selling of humans was a big deal in America between the

late 1600’s and the 1800’s. By 1835 there were over two million black men,

women, and children who were slaves. These people were bought and sold. No

one cared if husbands and wives got weparated or if children were separated

from their parents. Slaves were not treated like people. No one really

    cared what happend to them.

Harriet was beaten by her masters all the time. They saw as a wild child.

One tiem, Harriet saw a bowl filled with lumps of suger and decided to take

one. Harriet’s mistress, Miss. Susan, saw her take it and started chasing

her with a whip. Harriet ran away and hid out with the pigs. She ahd to go

bakc, because she was really hungrey. When she went back she got whipped

over and over again. She said, “Now you know, I never had anything good, no

sweet, no suger, and that sugar right by me did look so nice.”

By her early teens, Harriet was no longer allowed to work inside, so she

was hired out as a filed hand. She work very hard and long hours out in the

fields. There was no such thing as a rest for slaves.

In 1835, Harriet came between her owner and a slave who was running away.

The owner threw a lead weight, that weighed 2 punds, at the runaway, but it

hit Harriet instead. the hit put hir in a coma and it took months for her to

recover. She never fully recovered from the hit and after that suffered from

blackouts, really bad headaches, and sleeping spelss for the rest of her

life. In 1844, Harriet meet a free black man named John Tubman. They got

married, but Harriet was still a slave. They got to stay in his cabin at

night. Harriet’s owner died and she knew she was going to be sold to

someone else. She was really afraid of being shipped to the deep south. The

deep south was the worse place a slave could go. it was a death sentence for

any slave. Harriet always dreamed about traveling up north where she would

be free and she didn’t want her marriage split up by the slave trade. She

talked to Hohn about escaping, and he said he would tell on her is she did.

She planned out her escape and didn’t tell him about it, because he would

tell on her. The only person that knew about was one of her sisters.

Harriet escaped at night. She had no money and no food. She went to the

house of a white women who had once offered to help her. The woman told

    Harriet which…

Jinnah was an Indian politician who successfully campaigned for an independent Pakistan and became its first leader. He is known there as ‘Quaid-I Azam’ or ‘Great Leader’.

Mohammed Ali Jinnah was born on 25 December 1876 in Karachi, now in Pakistan, but then part of British-controlled India. His father was a prosperous Muslim merchant.

Jinnah studied at Bombay University and at Lincoln’s Inn in London. He then ran a successful legal practice in Bombay. He was already a member of the Indian National Congress, which was working for autonomy from British rule, when he joined the Muslim League in 1913. The league had formed a few years earlier to represent the interests of Indian Muslims in a predominantly Hindu country, and by 1916 he was elected its president.

In 1920, the Indian National Congress launched a movement of non-cooperation to boycott all aspects of British rule. Jinnah opposed this policy and resigned from the congress. There were by now profound differences between the congress and the Muslim League.

After provincial elections in 1937, the congress refused to form coalition administrations with the Muslim League in mixed areas. Relations between Hindus and Muslims began to deteriorate. In 1940, at a Muslim League session in Lahore, the first official demand was made for the partition of India and the creation of a Muslim state of Pakistan. Jinnah had always believed that Hindu-Muslim unity was possible, but reluctantly came to the view that partition was necessary to safeguard the rights of Indian Muslims.

His insistence on this issue through negotiations with the British government resulted in the partition of India and the formation of the state of Pakistan on 14 August 1947. This occurred against a backdrop of widespread violence between Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs, and a vast movement of populations between the new states of Pakistan and India in which hundreds of thousands died.

Jinnah became the first governor general of Pakistan, but died of tuberculosis on 11 September 1948.

Essay hard times outline Introduction General info, for example: Time and place written: London, 1854. Date of publication: pubished in serial instalments in Dickens’ magazine Household Words from April 1st to August 12th, 1854. Time: middle of the nineteenth century Place: Coketown, a manufacturing town in South England

Discuss idea of people in Victorian age: three classes still Higher class: very few people, very fond of themselves and look down at lower class Middle class: not very rich actually but lived a better life than lower class Lower class: must work very hard and do not like the industrialisation Introduce thesis: In the novel Hard Times, the characters are representational for the time and place the story was written in, which can be seen by language, the setting and the name of the characters.

Paragraphs Paragraph I To start with, language is a significant thing in the representation of the characters for the time and place the novel was written in as they use language significant to their ‘group’. Look how we live, an’ wheer we live, an’ in what numbers, an’ by what chances, an’ wi’ what sameness; and look how the mills is awlus a-goin’, and how they never works us no nigher to onny distant object-‘ceptin awlus Death.

How fast would you like to get it?

Look how you considers of us, and writes of us, and talks of us, and goes up wi’ your deputations to Secretaries o’ State ‘bout us, and how yo are awlus right, and how we are awlus wrong, and never had’n no reason in us sin ever we were born. Look how this ha’ growen an’ growen sir, bigger an’ bigger, broader an’ broader, harder an’ harder, fro year to year, fro generation unto generation. Who can look on’t sir, and fairly tell a man ‘tis not a muddle? Stephen Blackpool’s speech to Bounderby, from Book the Second, Chapter 5, is one of the few glimpses that we receive into the lives of the Hands.

His long sentences and repetition of words such as “an’” and “Look” mimic the monotony of the workers’ lives. Similarly, Stephen’s dialect illustrates his lack of education and contrasts with the proper English spoken by the middle-class characters and by the narrator. Paragraph II Secondly, the setting in the novel helps emphasising the time and place the novel was written in since Coketown was an industrial town etc etc. Coketown lay shrouded in a haze of its own, which appeared impervious to the sun’s rays.

You only knew the town was there because you knew there could have been no such sulky blotch upon the prospect without a town. A blur of soot and smoke, now confusedly tending this way, now that way, now aspiring to the vault of Heaven, now murkily creeping along the earth, as the wind rose and fell, or changed its quarter: a dense formless jumble, with sheets of cross light in it, that showed nothing but masses of darkness—Coketown in the distance was suggestive of itself, though not a brick of it could be seen. Like many other descriptions of Coketown, this passage, from Book the Second, Chapter 1, emphasizes its somber smokiness.

The murky soot that fills the air represents the moral filth that permeates the manufacturing town. Similarly, the sun’s rays represent both the physical and moral beauty that Coketown lacks. While the pollution from the factories makes Coketown literally a dark, dirty place to live, the suffering of its poor and the cold self-interest of its rich inhabitants render Coketown figuratively dark. In stating that Coketown’s appearance on the horizon is “suggestive of itself,” the narrator implies that Coketown is exactly what it appears to be.

The dark “sulky blotch” hides no secrets but simply represents what is, on closer inspection, a dark, formless town. Built entirely of hard, red brick, Coketown has no redeeming beauty or mystery—instead, it embodies Mr. Gradgrind’s predilection for unaccommodating material reality. Paragraph III Thirdly, Dickens used his way to give his characters names which have a meaning carrying with them. For example Bitzer, which sounds very sharp and hostile or mr. M’Choakumchild being “choke-a-child” this is very significant for the time the novel was written in and especially for Dickens.

The ancient Roman culture had several traits that made it a thriving and interesting culture. It is known as one of the most productive and sophisticated cultures of all time. We see some of the same traits in today’s American society, which makes the Roman culture intriguing for modern Americans to observe. The traits of the ancient Roman culture played a big role on ancient literature and the same roles have been adopted into today’s American society.

Ancient Roman culture played a pretty significant role in ancient literature. First, with the Roman culture, we see a culture that is very open and accepting to different thoughts or beliefs. History reveals to us that when the Romans conquered a nation, they would allow the people of that nation to keep their own beliefs and culture. In Petronius’ The Satyricon, we see an example of this in how easily a man, enslaved by the Romans, could become a free and a wealthy man in the Roman society without ever forfeiting his beliefs or customs. Trimalchio became a slave in the Roman Empire and then was freed when he inherited his master’s wealth. This shows liberality because in most societies in ancient history, a person who is a slave would not see freedom or gain much wealth during his or her lifetime. Secondly, the ancient Roman culture took a lot from what a different culture had started and added just a little bit to it and called it Roman culture. For example, the Romans used Ancient Greece’s practices of the god’s, but they changed the Greek god Apollo to their own god Jupiter. We also see a lot of Greek Literature come up in Roman Literature. The Greeks allegedly came up with the idea of satire in writing but, Roman Literature changed it just a little bit and is now well known for it. We see an extreme diversity in people in the Roman Empire. We see people from different ethnicities, race, and religion. This, in most part, is due to the acceptance or tolerance the Roman Empire had toward everyone regardless of their religion, ethnics or values. Finally, we see religion starting to play a big role towards the end of the Roman Empire. St. Augustine can be credited for establishing Christianity as the belief of Rome right before the Empire fell. St. Augustine establishes the church as the head of the Roman Empire in his autobiography Confessions. He confesses all of his prior sins that he could bring to mind in order to set an example on how Christians should live and confess their sins. The Ancient Roman Culture had several intriguing traits that played not only a significant role in ancient literature but also a big role in the world and in cultures soon to come.

The ancient Roman culture has reoccurred several times in the modern American culture. First, we see the copy cat mentality, which the Romans had, here in America today. For example, look at the governments. We took the ancient Roman Government and mixed it with the British’s and a few others and call it the American Government. This is very Romanesque because they had a mixture of governing plans and ideas that came together to make their own style. Another example is the car industry. Parts made in Japan are sent to Canada and assembled there and then the final touch ups occur in Detroit yet we still label the vehicle as an American made car. The Romans did the same thing with Literature. The Greeks would do most of the work and then the Romans would come in and make a few changes and then call it Roman Literature. This is most evident when you look at ancient Greek satire and Roman satire. They are practically the same. We also see the ancient Roman culture show up in our society through the diversity of races and interests. In the town of Beebe, Arkansas alone, many different races or ethnic groups live. You see Caucasians, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans and more. In Rome there were the Middle Eastern people, the Romans, the former Greeks and more. Finally, we unfortunately see the same openness towards different thoughts or people as the Romans did back in the Ancient World. Today in America, we see a new openness or tolerance towards touchy subjects such as homosexuality, divorce and abortion. Though I am firmly against those subjects, as a nation we have slowly became more tolerant as the Romans were. Our Nation has started to adapt a tolerance for religions or beliefs that differ from those of our fathers and mothers. This is one trait I believe America never should have acquired from the Romans because now we cannot speak about our faith in public because it may offend people of a different religion. The very situations we are allowing to reoccur in today’s society are many of the same things that led to the downfall of the ancient Roman Empire. Because the Romans allowed an openness, they set themselves up for the very groups they were being tolerant of to destroy them. America has picked up several traits from the Ancient Roman culture. Some of these traits aren’t too bad, but some I believe could very well lead to the downfall of our nation.

Traits found in the ancient Roman Empire made the culture compelling for the most part, but many of these traits actually led to its own destruction. We see the things that caused the Roman Empire to thrive and we see some of the traits in our own society today. American society would have never been the same without the Roman influence. We learned a great deal about forming our government and how to create a diverse nation from them. America needs to use the proficient aspects of the Roman culture, but learn from the mistakes they made, or it will suffer the downfall that the Romans experienced in the ancient world.

In comparing Greece and Rome, I will start by pointing out that both Greece and Rome started out as city-states. Rome looked to Greece as a model while acquiring its foundation as a city-state. This fact makes it both simple, and hard to give a comparison essay of the two city-states. It is simple because they are much alike in political structure, family, and religion. However, hard because Rome outgrew its regards to its Greece political views of family, state, citizenship, and political participation.

Discrepancies came about in many elements of the social structure. Women and citizenship were two of the main discrepancies. In Greece, women were viewed as property and had very few civil rights; often if, a child was born a female, she would be left to die. They were also not allowed to live public lives. A Greek woman could not be found roaming the streets of Greece without a particular reason. Women were viewed very differently in Rome. In Rome women had the choice to live a public life and make there own decisions. Marrying in Roman culture was considered “compassionate.” Rome was not viewed as a male-only world. Rome, unlike Greece, would extend citizenship to expand their empire. Greece was content with there position as a city-state and did not believe in inviting strangers into their civilization.

In Rome and Greece, religious practice was considered different as well. Though Greece and Rome both believed in the supreme gods, Rome was more concerned with the society it created. As to where Greece was concerned with both its practice and the effects of the society. In Rome as well as in Greece, women participated in the practice of religious calibrations. These celebrations were a large part of their public life.

There were many differences between Greek and Roman civilization, even though the Roman culture was vastly influenced by the Greeks. Because the Romans had practiced different qualities, Rome developed an empire. Though the Roman Empire did not last, the key elements of its society can still be seen in the ever-enduring Greece civilization.

How to Write a College Expository Essay

    Amy Sterling Casil

    Home » The Rewrite

An expository essay explains a concept, investigates an idea, or presents evidence for an opinion. According to Purdue’s Online Writing Lab, in-class writing assignments and exams frequently instruct students to use an expository essay format. Expository essays can be developed using several different organizational patterns, depending upon the assignment, writing prompt or topic.

    Structure

No matter which organizational pattern you select for an expository essay, the essay must include an introduction that concludes with a clear, defined thesis sentence. Following the thesis sentence, body paragraphs should cover the main points included in the thesis. Each body paragraph should have a topic sentence. Students should use factual, logical, statistical or anecdotal information in each body paragraph. A good conclusion reflects the body paragraphs and the thesis statement but does not repeat the thesis.

    Compare and Contrast

A writing assignment to compare two approaches to a problem, two people, or two different products is suitable for a comparison and contrast expository essay. For example, if you are assigned to compare Civil War generals Grant and Lee, identify the main points of comparison between the two. Include these points of comparison in the thesis statement. Organize body paragraphs by covering each point of comparison, both similarities and differences, between the generals. Alternatively, write body paragraphs about Grant, then transition to paragraphs about Lee before writing a conclusion that reflects the thesis.

    Cause and Effect

Assignments that request students to cover the causes of a disease, a business success or failure or an historic event invite a cause and effect expository essay. If you are asked to write about the causes of heart disease, identify the primary causes and include them in the introduction and thesis statement. Organize body paragraphs by each cause, such as smoking, diet and lack of exercise. Conclude reflecting the causes you have covered.

    Paragraph Structure

Structure within paragraphs is important. Be certain each paragraph covers one subtopic and has a clear topic sentence. Include specific supporting evidence for the topic sentence. For example, if you are writing a paper in business class about the causes and effects of the 2001 Enron scandal, one paragraph could cover the woman who uncovered the scandal, Sherron Watkins. The paragraph should include facts and quoted information about Watkins’ role as whistleblower.

Teenagers are immature and innocent, they are curious about trying new things in their adolescences. Therefore, they can easily go astray if they lack correct guidance in this period. Premarital sex is a sensitive but attractive topic to teenagers, which requires correct guidance from their parents or schools. It is reported by Wang (2012) that an increasing number of teenagers have been engaging in premarital sex, which is regarded as an improper behavior by the older generations. Premarital sex among teenagers is mainly caused by curiosity, the media and the lack of sex education. Teenagers often start having premarital sex out of curiosity. According to Joshi and Chauhan (2011), “Young people reported various reasons for engaging in sexual activity such as sexual arousal, want of experience, curiosity, fun, and love.” Teenagers are curious about everything in their adolescence. They are interested in trying new things such as premarital sex. Rani, Figueroa and Ainsle (2003) reports that it is curiosity or gaining experience that motivate teenagers to have premarital sex. Sex is believed to be about a characteristic of adolescence and early adulthood that they often have fantasies sex.

Teenagers often imagine the scene about sex in which they will feel excited and pleased after they fall in love with others. That is the reason why they want to have premarital sex. Apart from this factor, another reason can result in this imagination. Another reason is that teenagers having premarital sex are often influenced by the media. Werner-Wilson, Fitzharris and Morrissey (2004) indicate that the free information about sex provided on the internet cause negative effect on teenagers’ understanding of sex behavior. The media equipped with eroticism provides negative examples to teenagers, which is ought to be well controlled by the government. According to Clyde Haberman (1989) , “Pornography corrodes human relationships, exploit individuals, especially women and young people.” It is stated by Escobar-Chaves, Tortolero, Markham, Low, Eitel and Thickstun (2005) that teenagers’ exposure to mass media is the largely unexplored factor that contributes to adolescents’ sexual activity. Pornography that spread by the media easily draws young people’s attentions and arouses their irresistible longings to have premarital sex. It is the government’s duty to come up with some regulations that controls the pornography industry and the media.

A final and equally point is that many teenagers have premarital sex because of the lack of sex education. According to Elliott (2010), “Parents are their children’s best sex educators.” However, Elliott (2010) indicates that a large amount of parents feel embarrassed while talking to their children about sex. Sex education that provides correct guidance to teenagers is neglected not only in families but in schools. Whitehead (1994) states that specialized sex education courses have not been arranged in many secondary schools. Also, Whitehead (1994) reports that it is difficult for teachers to provide comprehensive sex education to teenagers in a mixed class with limited class time. Sex education is such a significant component in teenagers’ growth that should be attached great importance to. Both parents and schools are supposed to correctly guide teenagers to know more about sexual knowledge, which is the best method to avoid accidents caused by premarital sex. With the rapid development of society, teenagers that lack sex education tend to engage much in premarital sex due to their curiosity or the negative models provided by the media.

However, teenagers are not encouraged to have premarital sex because of the immatureness of sexual organs. Both parents and schools are supposed to provide sex educations and sexual knowledge to the teenagers to satisfy their curiosity about sex.

      Introduction

Purdue University North Central Campus is one of four campuses in Indiana’s Purdue University system. At Purdue, students will find the personal attention and hands-on experience they need to achieve their life’s goals. A dedicated faculty is responsible for providing students with “an experience that you’ll remember.” Located in Westville, IN, PNC was relocated from Michigan City in 1967 and currently sits on 268 beautiful acres.

PNC prides itself in being the home to their own Sculpture Garden. The exhibits change throughout the year and feature student artwork as well as those created by faculty and feature artists.

Over 4,000 students attend PNC with the mission to learn, discover, and engage. PNC strives to become the regional center of excellence for information, education, economic development, and culture.

Purdue University North Central is accredited by both the North Central Association and The Higher Learning Commission.

      Academics

Students at Purdue University North Central may choose from two master’s degree programs, earn a myriad of bachelor’s and associate degrees, or take courses to prepare them for transfer to West Lafayette or other campuses. Certificate programs are also available to students who are seeking continuing education or training for their fields or industries.

Students may earn degrees from four schools as follows:

      College of Business

The College of Business offers students bachelors degree opportunities as well as an MBA program. The faculty at PNC are aware that the world of business changes on a daily basis and strive to provide students with courses that are relevant to rapid progress in technology, innovation, invention, and communication. By the end of their studies, students are equipped to assume leadership roles in a dynamic and competitive economy.

      College of Engineering and Technology

PNC’s College of Engineering and Technology offers students with courses that center around Computer and Information Tecchnology, Construction Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and the like. Classes are small in this College as professors believe in meeting all academic needs of their students.

      College of Liberal Arts

Purdue University North Central’s College of Liberal Arts provides students with the foundation of a high-quality university education. Eight degree areas are offered through the College:

      College of Science

The College of Science encompasses three different departments which offer degree programs to students. They include the Departments of Biology and Chemistry, the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Physics, and the Department of Nursing.

      Most Popular Fields of Study

      Admissions

Students wishing to apply for admissions to PNC need to meet the following requirements:

In addition, students graduating from any of Indiana’s high schools as of 2012 are also required to pass their End of Course Assessments.

The Enrollment Service Admissions Team at Purdue University North Central utilize a holistic approach to admitting students into their school. As a result, they have a strong belief that a student’s cumulative high school GPA is not the only determining factor for acceptance. All factors are considered when the team decides which students will be admitted into PNC’s prestigious system.

      Financial Aid

Roughly 63% of PNC students take advantage of around $15 million in Financial Aid awarded each year. Grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study opportunities are available to all students. Most award types are based on needs and academic achievement.

Students interested in applying for financial aid must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA online. In order to ensure consideration for state grants, the FAFSA must be filed by March 1st.

PNC is also a part of the Midwest Student Exchange Program, which allows students from Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Indiana to enroll in participating institutions at reduced tuition levels.

      Students

At Purdue University North Central, student services are administered through the Dean of Students. PNC offers students with a myriad of activities to participate in, structured as clubs and organizations. The clubs and organizations focus on a range of topics from a variety of sports to industry-specific groups.

How to Write a Descriptive Essay Outline

by admin Basic Essay Writing Tips

How to Write a Descriptive Essay Outline

      • How to start
      • How to write body paragraphs
      • How to conclude
      • Outline sample

Descriptive essays are mainly used to help readers have a vivid idea or image of the object, place, or person being reviewed. Writers, therefore, try to engage the audience’s senses by creating a near perfect description. Readers, or the audience, need to feel like they have already visited a place or met a person after reading a descriptive essay. Writers must employ their mastery of language to make sure that their final piece creates an emotional connection with the readers.

      Descriptive Essay Structure

Understanding the structure of an essay is a key to writing a perfect essay . An essay’s structure mainly contains the segments or sections that need to be included within an essay. Writers should, therefore, understand how an essay is structured before embarking on the writing process. The structure of a descriptive essay is simple and mainly includes three sections which are:

      1. an introduction,
      2. the body section,
      3. and the conclusion.

These three must be included in an essay if a student is to score high marks.

      Tips Concerning Introduction Writing

An introduction provides a writer with the opportunity of making the first impression and impressing the readers. It is, therefore, essential that a writer sets off on the right footing. Additionally, it is in the introduction where the writer shapes their essay and either impresses the readers to the point where they want to read the entire essay or scares them off. When given this chance, it is essential that writers make the best out of it and deliver their best. Writers should build their essays from the introduction and make it easy for their readers to comprehend whatever information they will share in the essay. A majority of readers make the decision to continue reading an essay after the introduction. Therefore, writers should strive to make them interesting and captivating enough.

Here are some tips to help you write a good introduction:

      • Start the introduction with a hook. Capture the reader’s attention with an interesting first sentence. You can make use of fun facts about a city or use a phrase.
      • Be brief and direct in your introduction. Be mean with the information you share in the introduction, however, you should include enough to entice the readers to read the entire essay.
      • Include a thesis statement. Have your main argument stand out and make sure your audience understands it.

      Tips on Thesis Writing

A thesis statement mainly contains the writer’s main argument or the idea that will be prominent in the entire essay. Writers often use it to make their audience understand the purpose of their essay as well as reveal the scope of the subject under discussion.

When writing the thesis statement, consider the following:

      • Define your scope and make it narrow.
      • Avoid using clichés for example, “The focus of this article will be…”
      • Make the thesis statement intriguing.

      Tips on Body Paragraphs

Descriptive essay writing is not a challenging task, but some students often find themselves struggling to support their thesis statement. The body of an essay should develop or offer support to the thesis statement. Writers should, therefore, express their points in a way that builds on the introduction.

Here are some tips concerning the development of the body paragraphs:

      • Use topic sentences. The main arguments should be the first sentences in the subsequent paragraphs after the introduction.
      • Use transition words. For example, firstly, secondly, additionally, subsequently, etc. These help the readers to follow an essay systematically.
      • The number of the paragraphs differs and depends on the instructions provided. However, the length of each paragraph should be five to six sentences.

      Tips on Conclusion Writing

The conclusion in a descriptive essay represents the last opportunity for the writer to impress the readers. Writers should ensure that their conclusions leave the readers with a lasting impression and in a way affects their thinking.

To write a good conclusion, consider the following tips:

      • Restate the essay’s thesis statement.
      • Provide a summary of the essay’s points.
      • Leave the readers with something intriguing. Make sure they think about the essay beyond the assignment.

      Example of an Outline

A descriptive essay outline simply details the main points the writer will discuss in the essay. When writing an outline for a descriptive essay, it is essential to first of all, understand what the essay`s structure is. The above is important because the writer needs to focus on the points they will include in each of the sections. Descriptive essay outline writing is, therefore, essential and will help you decide on the scope of an essay while also developing points for the essay.

Below is an example of a descriptive essay outline:

      My Best Friend

      Introduction

      • Start with a funny memory about your friend or a phrase that they often say.
      • Provide basic information about your friend. (Name, Age, School, Work, etc.)
      • Provide a small history of your friendship. For example, when you first met.
      • Thesis statement (focus on what makes them a great friend, what values they uphold, their favorite programs, their most radical views about an issue such as abortion or divorce).

      Main Body

      • Physical attributes (short/tall, blonde/brunette/black/Asian/Latino).
      • Favorite TV programs and movies.
      • Most important Christian values.
      • Views on marriage and divorce.
      • What views or policies they feel contradict their faith.
      • Their stance on the current issues, for example, their view on President Trump’s immigration policy etc.

      Conclusion

      • Restate the thesis statement.
      • Provide a summary of the main points. Try to emphasize on their greatest qualities or their most intriguing quality. These tend to remain in the memory of the readers long after they have read the essay.
