Marketing and promotional content 6 Product strategy 7 The importance of consumer behaviour 7-8 Future trends 8-9 Conclusion 10 Bibliography 11 Appendix 12 Introduction I have been asked by my lecturer to analyse the editorial and advertising content of a lifestyle magazine of my choice. The magazine that I have chosen is Glamour; the reason that I chose this magazine, is because it is Britain’s number one women’s magazine and has been in circulation for over seventy years.

Glamour is a prestigious fashion magazine first printed in 1939 by Conde Nast Publishing who are responsible for numerous fashions and lifestyle magazines including Vogue, Men’s Vogue, Allure, GQ and many more. Topics addressed by the magazine include: Love, Fashion, Sex, Beauty, Health and lifestyle and Celebrity gossip. Glamour is recognised as a world class fashion magazine and it is now published in the US, UK and numerous countries across Europe. Analysis of advertising content

The advertising director for Glamour is Grace Dawson, and the fashion Assistant is Kerryn Grady, the products advertised are all premium brands like Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, DKNY, DG and many more. The number of pages used in the magazine to advertise products greatly exceeds the number of pages with editorial content. The front cover of the magazine is dominated by Danni Minogue, a highly influencing style icon for more than two decades and the main topics addressed in the March 2010 issue.

The magazine is printed on high quality glossy paper sending out a message of being luxurious, some of the advertising companies have attached samples of the products they are advertising and there is also a free gift offer from Benefit make up with every subscription to the magazine. The back cover is a celebrity endorsed by Charlie Theron for J’adore Dior perfume, a high cost to any marketing department, and on the inside of the back page is Cheryl Cole endorsing L’Oreal Hair products, inside of the front cover is a double spread advertising Lancome.

These are the most expensive advertising spaces that a company can buy in a magazine as they are the first and last pages the reader looks at making them more memorable. There are a number of advertisements for men’s products such as aftershaves throughout, which are more likely a tactic by marketers to target women to buy these products as gifts as it is solely directed towards a male reader.

There is a strong presence of sex in the advertising content; many of the images are provocative images to advertise the clothing ranges mostly, images that would not have been acceptable to print in the editions in the early 1940’s, people of today are becoming desensitised towards these images as they are more familiar with them. draw:custom-shape draw:frame Analysis of editorial content The editorial content starts on page 74, all pages before this are mainly advertisements and some acknowledgements and details of all editors, directors and managers.

The editorial content starts with the topic of sex, which is then followed by a conservative political view and an exclusive interview with David Cameron although there is not much depth to the editorial content the writer takes a more light hearted approach researching Cameron’s personal life, his appearance and daily regime than into political views and issues surrounding the conservative party. The front cover has all the main issues addressed in the magazine in a bold red and black font with the largest most important being “723+ styles fixes”.

Inside about quarter of the way in is a page devoted to readers letters and how much they have appreciated articles from previous issues and how they have helped the reader in their personal situations, with the winning letter receiving a camera to the value of ? 150. draw:line draw:line draw:line draw:line draw:custom-shape draw:frame Magazines target market Glamour magazine is marketed towards career orientated heterosexual women, who are fashion conscious with targeted reader age of between 19 and 50.

The socio economic class of the women that read this magazine would be typically either lower middle class or middle class, professional or junior management, educated and possibly with a political interests and a high level of disposable income as the goods advertised are designer brands such as D G, Calvin Klein and premium brand make up like Lancome and Dior. In the 70’s VALS Value and lifestyle segmentation was developed for commercial purposes in California in an attempt by SRI International to have a better understanding of consumer lifestyle.

Created to identify and group people accordingly so that they could predict consumer values and motivations to that they could target to the correct customers and make marketing attempts more efficient. Table 9. 4 page 400 Consumer Behaviour, Ray Wright By using the VALS table I would group the target reader of Glamour as achievers. Marketing and promotional content Glamour magazine has been available to buy as a paper copy since 1939 and in more recent years has become available digitally. The cost of buying a paper copy of Glamour is a fixed price of ? weekly, and is available in any large supermarket or book store, once a paper copy has been bought the reader can use the promotional certificate inside to get six copies at half price and get a free gift also. By accessing the Glamour website customers can avail of accounts based marketing, Glamour allow their readers to subscribe online which offers them business to customer savings and free gifts with their subscription, the process is simple, the reader only has to click on the subscription link and follow the direct debit instructions. Glamour is Britain’s No. women’s magazine, with circulatory figures for Glamour year ending 2009 were 515,281 according to Audit Bureau of Circulation Glamour’s promotional presence online is that on all the Conde Nast Publications, there is a footer throughout the websites which gives the user links to all Conde Nast publications and all of their brands, for example the footer is placed on all Conde Nast websites making Glamour Magazine accessible from other websites such as Vogue and GQ. The footer also offers the reader the option of contacting the magazine in numerous languages including Polish, Spanish, French and German.

Product strategy It is crucial that all elements of the product strategy complement each other, by ensuring the right mix of product, pricing strategy, promotion and place, will determine the success of the good/service. Identifying the need for the product is the basis, the pricing strategy must be realistic and meet the needs of the target market, Glamour has a set weekly price of ? 2 for their magazine, and the average cost of a magazine is between 50p and ? 4 making Glamour priced at middle of the range.

The promotional element of Glamour’s magazine is done with the use of A list celebrities on the front cover, fashion icons and idols, selling provocative images and the colours that make the magazine stand out amongst others, alongside the online promotion that Conde Nast Publications offer to all their brands using the medium of each brands individual website. The product must be placed where the targeted consumer will be able to access it easily; Glamour is sold through Newsagents, book stores, supermarkets and through pre paid subscriptions. The importance of consumer behaviour

It is important that a company understands consumer behaviour, it could be the difference between the success or failure of a marketing strategy, if the wrong customers are targeted the efforts will be ineffective and a waste of resources. By appreciating the importance of consumer behaviour marketers will be able to predict better the trends of the consumers and change their products or services to meet the ever changing customer wants and demands. One way of understanding better consumer behaviour is using loyalty cards to track what the consumer is buying and when they buy.

Consumer behaviour theories are crucially important to companies as they help understand Psychology of consumers like Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs of individuals helps outline the basics of psychological need, which therefore helps to market products better and adapt marketing campaigns appropriately. Issues that may influence consumer behaviour may include ethical, or social changes, like the discovery of child labour issues or fur versus fake fur, are consumers as willing to buy if they know issues such as this.

According to Dragon International (1991), and the Cone and Roper study (Simon, 1995) consumers are interested in ethical behaviour beyond those issues that directly impact on them, and would be more discriminating in their purchases if they were given more information about ethically and socially responsible activities. Future trends Future trends that I would predict for the magazine industry is that the decline in circulatory figures will continue, with the presence of the internet becoming stronger and the people trying to become more environmentally friendly.

According to ONS, 70% of homes in the UK now have internet access which is a rise of 28% since 2006. I predict that many of Glamour’s readers will switch from their hard copy and move onto reading their favourite articles online, whilst on the go from mobile devices, although I don’t believe that the digital copy will be the only copy available, hard copies may become fewer and more expensive, as some readers will still enjoy the smell and touch of a paper magazine. Internet Access 0% of households had access in 2009 Office of national statistics draw:frame Conclusion In conclusion, having analysed Glamour magazine I have found that the reader is being targeted with an enormous amount of advertising content, over half the magazine is adverts for premium products which appear in all Glamour issues only changing moderately, eventually leaving these advertisements unnoticeable. Throughout the magazine there is very little editorial content of which has very little content or depth, the reader is mostly purchasing advertisements.

This magazine already has a strong online presence of which I believe will only get stronger following their downturn in psychical sales. Bibliography Books Foxall, Gordon R. APA vs. MLA: What Style Guide Do I Use?

Introduction

APA versus MLA: what style guide do you use?

APA

The American Psychological Association (APA) style is, originally, a set of rules that authors use when submitting papers for publications in the journals of the APA. Established in 1929, the style has since been used to guide research writers and help them achieve – through the use of established standards for language, the construction of correct reference citations, the avoidance of plagiarism, the proper use of headers, among many others – “minimum distraction and maximum precision”.

As a complete style and guideline for writing, the APA is a valuable tool for writing scientific papers, laboratory reports, and papers covering topics in the field of psychology, education, and other social sciences. The APA style allows for in-text citations, direct quotations, and endnotes and footnotes. It is also enables the author to use the past tense of verbs in the reportage.

Standards of the APA style include:

  • Bibliographic list of references

  • Alphabetical order by author in the bibliographic list, then chronological by work

  • Referenced authors organized in the bibliographic list by last name, first initial, then middle initial

  • Italicized titles of periodicals listed in the bibliography, with the words of the title capitalized

  • Titles of books capitalized according to “sentence-style” capitalization

  • In-text citations in parenthesis, with the author’s last name, year of publication, and page number included (Smith, 1988. p. 4)

  • Double-spaced lines

  • Page numbers – plus the shortened title of the work – placed in the upper right of every page

  • Title centered an inch below the top of the page

  • Double-spaced footnotes / endnotes, used sparingly for non-crucial information, and which are subscripted with a number that relates to the footnote

MLA

The Modern Language Association (MLA) style is the leading style of documentation for literary research, as well as academic papers in the humanities field. It follows a specific set of rules for formatting manuscripts, and is considered, along with the APA style, a standardized reference format in college. Compared to the APA style, however, the MLA style focuses on the citation of books, anthologies, literary works, audio-visual material, multimedia, and similar works with much more detail.

Also, unlike the APA style, the present tense of verbs is most commonly used in the MLA style. Other MLA standards include:

  • Bibliographic list of works cited

  • Alphabetical order by author in the bibliographic list, then alphabetical by work

  • Centered titles an inch below the tops of the page

  • Referenced authors / names organized in the bibliographic list by last name, first name, then middle initial

  • In-text citations in parenthesis, with only the author’s last name and page number included (Smith 4)

  • Double-spaced lines, but with no extra line breaks between each citation

  • Footnotes (superscripted) also used to provide non-essential information

Which style do I use?

Humanities courses are usually asked to style according to MLA guidelines. Students in science and research fields, meanwhile, are often encouraged to follow the APA guidelines. In college, the primary reason for using a standardized reference format like the MLA or APA is so that professional peers, researchers, professors, and other academic readers can easily understand the syntax and easily check the citations.

APA Paper Formatting

APA Paper Formatting & Style Guidelines
Your teacher may want you to format your paper using APA guidelines. If you were told to create your citations in APA format, your paper should be formatted using the APA guidelines as well.

General guidelines:

  1. Use white 8 ½  x 11” paper.
  2. Make 1 inch margins on the top, bottom, and sides
  3. The first word in every paragraph should be indented one half inch.
  4. APA recommends using Times New Roman font, size 12.
  5. Double space the entire research paper
  6. Include a page header known as the “running head” at the top of every page. (To make this process easier, set your word processor to automatically add these components onto each page)
    1. To create the running head/page header, insert page numbers justified to the right-hand side of the paper (do not put p. or pg. in front of page numbers)
    2. Then type “TITLE OF YOUR PAPER” justified to the left using all capital letters
    3. If your title is long, this running head title should be a shortened version of the title of your entire paper

Sample running head/page header

APA Paper Components

Your essay should include these four major sections:

  1. Title Page
  2. Abstract
  3. Main Body
  4. References

Title Page

This page should contain four pieces: the title of the paper, running head, the author’s name, institutional affiliation, and an author’s note. Create the page header/running head as described above.

*Please note that only on the title page, your page header/running head should include the words “Running Head” before your title in all capitals. The rest of the pages should not include this in the page header. It should look like this on the title page:

aparunninghead

  • The title of the paper should capture the main idea of the essay but should not contain abbreviations or words that serve no purpose
  • It should be centered on the page and typed in 12-point Times New Roman font. Do not underline, bold, or italicize the title.

  1. Your title may take up one or two lines, but should not be more than 12 words in length.
  2. All text on the title page should be double-spaced in the same way as the rest of your essay
  3. Do not include any titles on the author’s name such as Dr. or Ms.
  4. The institutional affiliation is the location where the author conducted the research

Sample Title page:

Abstract

On the following page, begin with the Running title.

  1. On the first line of the page, center the word “Abstract” (but do not include quotation marks).

  3. This summary should not be indented, but should be double-spaced and less than 250 words.
  4. If applicable, help researchers find your work in databases by listing keywords from your paper after your summary. To do this, indent and type Keywords: in italics.  Then list your keywords that stand out in your research.

Population should be controlled for a number of reasons. Firstly, the resources are limited and are running out. Secondly, shortage of finances is a result. However, it is considered an unethical practice in some religions and abortion is strictly prohibited. Moreoever, it adds to the GDP as more is demanded consumed and produced. Beginning on this topic, first and foremost reason as to why population should be controlled is because natural resources are running out. Not everybody has access to these resources and the reason is ‘over population’. Let’s take water for e. g.

1/3rd of the people don’t have access to safe drinking water. Secondly, population should be controlled because it results in our people being even more illiterate. People who do not have the financial means to support a family should limit the amount of children they have because they’re not looked after, not well nourished and most importantly results in the infant mortality rate. In other words, too many people can harm the other people in every aspect because their needs will not be answered and looked upon. If the population is well controlled, everyone can maintain a certain standard of living.

Some argue that population growth is essential and generates income. As more people are born more will be demanded and purchased eventually. This results in the generation of incomes all over the world which is why some countries don’t restrict this practice. In addition to this, restricting the population is considered to be unethical according to some religions. Especially Islam and Christianity donot give the right to abortions and/or divorces. Hence it is very essential to control population in order for other people to receive resources.

If there is too much population, it will eventually result in harming everyone rather than benefiting them. It will cause a drastic change In the country’s economy and environment. In order to save our environment from destruction, population MUST be controlled in a sensible way. British broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough had once said: “Instead of controlling the environment for the benefit of the population, maybe we should control the population to ensure the survival of our environment”. Overpopulation and over consumption are therefore the root problems that need to be looked after.

Essay Writing Guide

The LSAT Writing Sample asks you to write an essay in 35 minutes. It is wise to invest a few hours in preparation for your essay. Those who don’t prepare at all often write terrible essays. These essays might even be bad enough to endanger a student’s admission chances. Spend a few hours looking at sample essays to avoid any unnecessary mistakes.

The essay section is designed to test how well you can (1) organize a compelling argument using sound reasoning and supporting evidence and (2) express your thoughts clearly in written form. The essay section is NOT meant to test how many big vocabulary words you know, how much you know about the law or any other specific topic, or really even how creative you are.

What will the topic be?

You won’t be asked to write about a specific topic so much as you’ll be asked to respond to a specific scenario. The scenario will always be presented in the same form. Here’s a watered-down example (keep in mind that the scenario on your exam will be more involved):

John wants to buy a pet. He is choosing between a cat and a dog. He only has time to care for one pet. Write an essay in which you argue for the purchase of one type of pet over the other based on the following considerations:

  • John wants a pet that will be relatively maintenance-free.
  • John wants a pet that will be a true, loyal companion.

The first option, the cat, is a clean pet that does not typically damage or destroy household property. While the cat does need to be fed twice per day, it does not need to be taken for daily walks. The cat is very aloof and non-responsive to human interaction, but it does grow attached to its human owner over time.

The second option, the dog, requires daily attention. The dog has been known to damage household property, and it requires walks on a daily basis. With training, the dog can learn to be relatively self-sufficient. The dog responds to human interaction and craves the attention of its human owner, but it can’t communicate very well with humans.

As mentioned earlier, the scenario will always be presented in the same way. The first part will present a choice, the second part (the bullet statements) will present two considerations that need to be weighed in making that choice, and the third part will provide more information about the two choices at hand. Notice that there is no right or wrong answer here. In fact, the scenario is presented in such a way as to make it difficult to decide which option is better! They both have their pros and cons. What’s important is NOT which option you choose, but rather how you justify, or support, the choice that you do end up making.

How should I write my essay?

The following will outline a process for planning and writing your essay. It certainly isn’t the only way to do it, but it does provide a consistent, repeatable approach that you’ll be able to rely on.

Step 1: Compile information in grid form (5 minutes total for steps 1-3)

In the test booklet, set up a table that has the two choices along the top and the two considerations along the side. In the intersecting cells of the grid, include the appropriate pros and cons using a “+” before any pro and a “-“ before any con. For our example, it might look like this:

CatDog
Relatively Maintenance-Free+ clean
+ doesn’t destroy property
+ no walks
– needs food twice per day
– daily attention
– damages property
– daily walks
+ can learn to be relatively self-sufficient
True, Loyal Companion– aloof and non-responsive
+ becomes attached to human owner
+ responds to humans
+ craves human attention
– can’t communicate well

You’re familiar with cats and dogs, so it’s probably already obvious to you that a cat would be a good low-maintenance choice and a dog would be good for companionship. Keep in mind, however, that the scenario you will see on your exam will be much less familiar to you. Organizing the information in grid form will make it much easier for you to see the relative strengths and weaknesses of each choice.

Step 2: Decide on a “more important” consideration (5 minutes total for steps 1-3)

At this point, you want to make a decision. Is it more important for John that the pet be maintenance-free or that it be a loyal companion? Again, there’s no right answer. Even so, you need to decide which you will make more important. Choose one that you can easily justify (even if it’s a made-up justification). For example, we’ll decide:

“Having a loyal companion is more important than having a low-maintenance pet because true friendship trumps all else. If John has a true companion and friend, the daily maintenance will become a labor of love instead of a hassle.”

Step 3: Make your choice! (5 minutes total for steps 1-3)

Your decision in step 2 should lead you to a clear choice. In this case, if we deem companionship to be the more important consideration, then we’ll want to choose the dog (since the dog clearly has more compelling plusses in that part of the grid).

“John should pick the dog because it will serve as a more loyal companion than the cat will.”

Step 4: Write the essay (25 minutes)

Plan on structuring your essay the same way every time. Here’s an easy template to follow:

Essay Section Template

Paragraph 1:

A. Summarize the decision to be made. “The scenario presented above puts John in a position in which he will choose between purchasing a cat and purchasing a dog.”

B. Acknowledge the complexity of the decision. “Given the considerations and characteristics of the choices at hand, this is a very difficult decision in that each choice has its merits.”

C. State your opinion. “Even so, John would be better served by choosing the dog.”

Paragraph 2:

A. State why the primary consideration (the one you chose to be the primary consideration) is more important and how your choice satisfies this consideration. “First, it is more important to have a pet that serves as a loyal companion than it is to have a pet that is maintenance-free…” (justify this statement, even if it’s a made-up justification) or “The dog will be a loyal companion in that it will …” (use the information from the grid to show how)

B. State why the other choice (cat) falls short in this regard. “The cat, on the other hand, is a poor match for anyone looking for a loyal pet …” (use the information from the grid to show how)

Paragraph 3:

State how your choice still does an okay job with the secondary consideration. “Furthermore, while the dog isn’t an ideal choice for someone wanting a maintenance-free pet, it can learn to be relatively self-sufficient…” (use any other information from the grid to support this)

Paragraph 4:

Summarize your argument

Step 5: Proofread! (5 minutes)

Spelling errors, misprints, grammatical errors, etc. will never go over well. While a few simple mistakes won’t kill you, you want to be sure your final essay is as clean as possible.

Practice this a few times on some real essay prompts and you should be all set. Good luck!

General Essay Writing Tips

Despite the fact that, as Shakespeare said, “the pen is mightier than the sword,” the pen itself is not enough to
make an effective writer. In fact, though we may all like to think of ourselves as the next Shakespeare, inspiration
alone is not the key to effective essay writing. You see, the conventions of English essays are more formulaic than
you might think – and, in many ways, it can be as simple as counting to five.

The Five Paragraph Essay

Though more advanced academic papers are a category all their own, the basic high school or college essay has the
following standardized, five paragraph structure:

Paragraph 1: Introduction
Paragraph 2: Body 1
Paragraph 3: Body 2
Paragraph 4: Body 3
Paragraph
5: Conclusion

Though it may seem formulaic – and, well, it is – the idea behind this structure is to make it easier for the reader
to navigate the ideas put forth in an essay. You see, if your essay has the same structure as every other one, any
reader should be able to quickly and easily find the information most relevant to them.

The Introduction

Want to see sample essays?
Check out
our Sample Essay section where
you can see scholarship essays, admissions essays, and more!

The principle purpose of the introduction is to present your position (this is also known as the “thesis” or
“argument”) on the issue at hand but effective introductory paragraphs are so much more than that. Before you even
get to this thesis statement, for example, the essay should begin with a “hook” that grabs the reader’s attention
and makes them want to read on. Examples of effective hooks include relevant quotations (“no man is an island”) or
surprising statistics (“three out of four doctors report that…”).

Only then, with the reader’s attention “hooked,” should you move on to the thesis. The thesis should be a clear,
one-sentence explanation of your position that leaves no doubt in the reader’s mind about which side you are on from
the beginning of your essay.

Following the thesis, you should provide a mini-outline which previews the examples you will use to support your
thesis in the rest of the essay. Not only does this tell the reader what to expect in the paragraphs to come but it
also gives them a clearer understanding of what the essay is about.

Finally, designing the last sentence in this way has the added benefit of seamlessly moving the reader to the first
paragraph of the body of the paper. In this way we can see that the basic introduction does not need to be much more
than three or four sentences in length. If yours is much longer you might want to consider editing it down a bit!

Here, by way of example, is an introductory paragraph to an essay in response to the following question:

“Do we learn more from finding out that we have made mistakes or from our successful actions?”

“No man is an island” and, as such, he is constantly shaped and influenced by his experiences. People learn by doing
and, accordingly, learn considerably more from their mistakes than their success. For proof of this, consider
examples from both science and everyday experience.

DO – Pay Attention to Your Introductory Paragraph

Because this is the first paragraph of your essay it is your opportunity to give the reader the best first
impression possible. The introductory paragraph not only gives the reader an idea of what you will talk
about but also shows them how you will talk about it. Put a disproportionate amount of effort into this –
more than the 20% a simple calculation would suggest – and you will be rewarded accordingly.

DO NOT – Use Passive Voice or I/My

Active voice, wherein the subjects direct actions rather than let the actions “happen to” them – “he scored
a 97%” instead of “he was given a 97%” – is a much more powerful and attention-grabbing way to write. At the
same time, unless it is a personal narrative, avoid personal pronouns like I, My, or Me. Try instead to be
more general and you will have your reader hooked.

The Body Paragraphs

The middle paragraphs of the essay are collectively known as the body paragraphs and, as alluded to above, the main
purpose of a body paragraph is to spell out in detail the examples that support your thesis.

For the first body paragraph you should use your strongest argument or most significant example unless some other
more obvious beginning point (as in the case of chronological explanations) is required. The first sentence of this
paragraph should be the topic sentence of the paragraph that directly relates to the examples listed in the
mini-outline of introductory paragraph.

A one sentence body paragraph that simply cites the example of “George Washington” or “LeBron James” is not enough,
however. No, following this an effective essay will follow up on this topic sentence by explaining to the reader, in
detail, who or what an example is and, more importantly, why that example is relevant.

Even the most famous examples need context. For example, George Washington’s life was extremely complex – by using
him as an example, do you intend to refer to his honesty, bravery, or maybe even his wooden teeth? The reader needs
to know this and it is your job as the writer to paint the appropriate picture for them. To do this, it is a good
idea to provide the reader with five or six relevant facts about the life (in general) or event (in particular) you
believe most clearly illustrates your point.

Having done that, you then need to explain exactly why
this example proves your thesis
. The importance of this step cannot be understated (although it clearly can
be underlined); this is, after all, the whole reason you are providing the example in the first place. Seal
the deal by directly stating why this example is relevant.

Here is an example of a body paragraph to continue the essay begun above:

Take, by way of example, Thomas Edison. The famed American inventor rose to prominence in the late 19th century
because of his successes, yes, but even he felt that these successes were the result of his many failures. He did
not succeed in his work on one of his most famous inventions, the lightbulb, on his first try nor even on his
hundred and first try. In fact, it took him more than 1,000 attempts to make the first incandescent bulb but, along
the way, he learned quite a deal. As he himself said, “I did not fail a thousand times but instead succeeded in
finding a thousand ways it would not work.” Thus Edison demonstrated both in thought and action how instructive
mistakes can be.

DO – Tie Things Together

The first sentence – the topic sentence – of your body paragraphs needs to have a lot individual pieces to
be truly effective. Not only should it open with a transition that signals the change from one idea to the
next but also it should (ideally) also have a common thread which ties all of the body paragraphs together.
For example, if you used “first” in the first body paragraph then you should used “secondly” in the second
or “on the one hand” and “on the other hand” accordingly.

DO NOT – Be Too General

Examples should be relevant to the thesis and so should the explanatory details you provide for them. It can
be hard to summarize the full richness of a given example in just a few lines so make them count. If you are
trying to explain why George Washington is a great example of a strong leader, for instance, his childhood
adventure with the cherry tree (though interesting in another essay) should probably be skipped over.

A Word on Transitions

You may have noticed that, though the above paragraph aligns pretty closely with the provided outline, there is one
large exception: the first few words. These words are example of a transitional phrase – others include
“furthermore,” “moreover,” but also “by contrast” and “on the other hand” – and are the hallmark of good writing.

Transitional phrases are useful for showing the reader where one section ends and another begins. It may be helpful
to see them as the written equivalent of the kinds of spoken cues used in formal speeches that signal the end of one
set of ideas and the beginning of another. In essence, they lead the reader from one section of the paragraph of
another.

To further illustrate this, consider the second body paragraph of our example essay:

In a similar way, we are all like Edison in our own way. Whenever we learn a new skill – be it riding a bike,
driving a car, or cooking a cake – we learn from our mistakes. Few, if any, are ready to go from training wheels to
a marathon in a single day but these early experiences (these so-called mistakes) can help us improve our
performance over time. You cannot make a cake without breaking a few eggs and, likewise, we learn by doing and doing
inevitably means making mistakes.

Hopefully this example not only provides another example of an effective body paragraph but also illustrates how
transitional phrases can be used to distinguish between them.

The Conclusion

Although the conclusion paragraph comes at the end of your essay it should not be seen as an afterthought. As the
final paragraph is represents your last chance to make your case and, as such, should follow an extremely rigid
format.

One way to think of the conclusion is, paradoxically, as a second introduction because it does in fact contain many
of the same features. While it does not need to be too long – four well-crafted sentence should be enough – it can
make or break and essay.

Effective conclusions open with a concluding transition (“in conclusion,” “in the end,” etc.) and an allusion to the
“hook” used in the introductory paragraph. After that you should immediately provide a restatement of your thesis
statement.

This should be the fourth or fifth time you have repeated your thesis so while you should use a variety of word
choice in the body paragraphs it is a acceptable idea to use some (but not all) of the original language you used in
the introduction. This echoing effect not only reinforces your argument but also ties it nicely to the second key
element of the conclusion: a brief (two or three words is enough) review of the three main points from the body of
the paper.

Having done all of that, the final element – and final sentence in your essay – should be a “global statement” or
“call to action” that gives the reader signals that the discussion has come to an end.

In the end, then, one thing is clear: mistakes do far more to help us learn and improve than successes. As examples
from both science and everyday experience can attest, if we treat each mistake not as a misstep but as a learning
experience the possibilities for self-improvement are limitless.

DO – Be Powerful

The conclusion paragraph can be a difficult paragraph to write effectively but, as it is your last chance to
convince or otherwise impress the reader, it is worth investing some time in. Take this opportunity to
restate your thesis with confidence; if you present your argument as “obvious” then the reader might just do
the same.

DO NOT – Copy the First Paragraph

Although you can reuse the same key words in the conclusion as you did in the introduction, try not to copy
whole phrases word for word. Instead, try to use this last paragraph to really show your skills as a writer
by being as artful in your rephrasing as possible.

Taken together, then, the overall structure of a five paragraph essay should look something like this:

Introduction Paragraph

  • An attention-grabbing “hook”
  • A thesis statement
  • A preview of the three subtopics you will discuss in the body paragraphs.

First Body Paragraph

  • Topic sentence which states the first subtopic and opens with a transition
  • Supporting details or examples
  • An explanation of how this example proves your thesis

Second Body Paragraph

  • Topic sentence which states the second subtopic and opens with a transition
  • Supporting details or examples
  • An explanation of how this example proves your thesis

Third Body Paragraph

  • Topic sentence which states the third subtopic and opens with a transition
  • Supporting details or examples
  • An explanation of how this example proves your thesis

Concluding Paragraph

  • Concluding Transition, Reverse “hook,” and restatement of thesis.
  • Rephrasing main topic and subtopics.
  • Global statement or call to action.

More tips to make your essay shine

Planning Pays

Although it may seem like a waste of time – especially during exams where time is tight – it is almost always better to brainstorm a bit before beginning your essay. This should enable
you to find the best supporting ideas – rather than simply the first ones that come to mind – and position them in
your essay accordingly.

Your best supporting idea – the one that most strongly makes your case and, simultaneously, about which you have the
most knowledge – should go first. Even the best-written essays can fail because of ineffectively placed arguments.

Aim for Variety

Sentences and vocabulary of varying complexity are one of the hallmarks of effective writing. When you are writing,
try to avoid using the same words and phrases over and over again. You don’t have to be a walking thesaurus but a
little variance can make the same idea sparkle.

If you are asked about “money,” you could try “wealth” or “riches.” At the same time, avoid beginning sentences the
dull pattern of “subject + verb + direct object.” Although examples of this are harder to give, consider our writing
throughout this article as one big example of sentence structure variety.

Practice! Practice! Practice!

In the end, though, remember that good writing does not happen by accident. Although we have endeavored to explain
everything that goes into effective essay writing in as clear and concise a way as possible, it is much easier in
theory than it is in practice.

As a result, we recommend that you practice writing sample essays on various topics. Even if they are not
masterpieces at first, a bit of regular practice will soon change that – and make you better prepared when it comes
to the real thing.

Essay on Legalizing Marijuana: A Dangerous Drug or a Powerful Cure?

7 August, 2015
, by Jane Copland

cannabis (marijuna) lawLegalization of cannabis has been a very controversial issue in the United States for a long time; even more so after several states have already passed the legislation lifting the ban. Should all marijuana be legal? Is it dangerous? What are the possible implications of this? It is one of these topics that people just cannot help but have diametrically opposite viewpoints on.

For decades marijuana was considered to be a dangerous drug, leading to criminal behavior and personal degradation. However, by now most of these beliefs have been discredited – there is little to no proof that cannabis in and of itself has any adverse effects. Some studies even show that it is far less dangerous than many completely legal prescription drugs – both for its users and those around them.

In addition to that, there is corroborative proof of marijuana’s positive medical effects. Cannabis is beneficial for epilepsy patients, it eases nausea caused by chemotherapy and shows good results when used by people suffering from AIDS, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis and a number of other conditions. In other words, legalization of cannabis can greatly improve the quality of life of all these people, while proof of its lasting or even temporary adverse effects remains more than scarce.

But even if we take medical use of cannabis aside, let’s ask ourselves a simple question: the war on drugs has been raging for decades, billions of government spending have been poured down this sinkhole, hundreds of thousands of people were convicted on drug charges, tens of thousands are getting killed in drug wars in Mexico and South America – yet the results are less than nil.

Drug trade is running rampant, tens of thousands die in drug-related shootings and gang warfare, prisons are overfilled with people charged with possession or selling drugs (and a large percentage of them has been arrested over finding a tiny amount of marijuana on them), time in prison makes it difficult for these people to find proper jobs later on, again pushing them towards criminal activities, thousands of addicts die due to overdose.

It seems that Prohibition era should have taught us that criminalizing an activity doesn’t make it disappear – it simply procreates organized crime. Most narcotic drugs are relatively simple and cheap in production – their high prices are caused by their illegal status and dangers accompanying producing and selling them. The war on drugs is exactly what causes drug mafia to exist in the first place – and in the long run, losses from the war on drugs by far exceed any positive effects it may have.

That is the prime reason to legalize marijuana and, ideally, drugs in general. It is impossible to eliminate them. It is impossible to protect people from themselves. If somebody wants to follow his or her self-destructive tendencies, it is not the state’s job to be his or her nanny. If drugs are legalized and cheap, a drug addict is very unlikely to harm anybody but himself – and we should take into account a greatly diminished risk of overdose, infection and other dangers accompanying illicit drugs.

How to work at a startup: 3. Cover letter and social media

by Guest Blogger

By Federico Prandi.

Ever wondered why cover letters are called cover letters?

That’s because they’re a cover-up, a fraud, a final attempt to reinforce all the lies you’ve shamelessly written on your resume and spice them up with some hardcore lip service. A good cover letter is something you can’t have your wife and children read without them thinking you’re willing to trade your family for a part-time customer service job at an internet startup.

Now, in order to write a convincing cover letter you have to be able to write a regular one. I know that nobody writes proper letters anymore, but in our childhood we’ve all done it in (at least) two specific circumstances.

#1 Love Letters

I remember middle school as the place where my first literary attempts took place. All the guys were pouring their hormonal intensity into odes to girls who either wouldn’t let them touch their breasts or didn’t have breasts at all. One of my letters was so successful that a 12-year-old girl in my class pulled me aside and kissed me, making death poems suddenly look like a better idea.

#2 Letters to Santa

Growing up in a catholic family, I could either write my Christmas wishes to Santa or to baby Jesus. I always picked the former, assuming that the old man wouldn’t be up to date with my sins. In hindsight I feel like I was never really filled in on the magic of Christmas and as a result all my letters to Santa sounded like financial scam against a vulnerable senior, as if I had to convince him to spend all his pension on my presents. Also, I probably looked down on Jesus, thinking that a baby born in a shed wouldn’t be able to discern between the real Little Mermaid merchandise and those cheap rip-offs.

Anyway, the perfect cover letter takes something from both examples; it combines the pained longing of the teenage love letter and the manipulative hidden agenda of the Santa letter; it makes big promises but also claims big rewards; it tells a company that you’ll be their dream, you’ll be their wish, you’ll be their fantasy. You’ll be their hope, you’ll be their love, be everything that they need. You’ll love them more with every breath (truly, madly, deeply do), you will be strong, you will be faithful ’cause you’re counting on a new beginning, a reason for living, a deeper meaning, yeah.

Dear NAME_OF_RECRUITER,

My name is Federico Prandi Barry LaVaughn [PRO TIP: use a name that oozes out awesomeness: fake IDs aren’t as expensive as you think!] and I’m applying for the position of Online Marketing Manager after applying to three others and being rejected finding the job posting on some random Reddit thread the company website.

I’ve spent the past year watching every season of Survivor on my couch traveling around the world, but now I need money feel like it’s time for a new professional challenge. I’ve been keeping an eye on NAME_OF_COMPANY for the past seven minutes, while simultaneously shopping on Amazon years and I was always impressed by your constant achievements in terms of growth and marketing efforts.

Before traveling, I worked for two months years at a marketing agency whose main focus are on-site and off-site SEO. When the company started offering a wider range of services, the fact that I have a Twitter account with more than 6 followers my holistic approach to online marketing came especially handy and I was given new responsibilities. My professional path gave me practical experience in stalking people online conducting detailed on-site audits, developing actionable inbound marketing strategies and researching keywords in a clever way. My team left the boat before it sank swayed between “very small” and a “one-man-show”, which made me cry in the shower at night called for crazy organizational skills, high versatility and alcoholism a talent for setting priorities.

In my private time I tend to read and write Harry Potter erotic fanfic in a lot of online places (forums, blogs, e-zines, online newspapers, social media…you name it!); this gave me a very sharp sensitivity when it comes to anything futile in life contemporary online trends and the language of the web.

Having read the profile you’re looking for, I am going to ignore all the requirements I don’t have and apply anyway think I might be a valuable asset to your team and at the same time have a chance to grow as a marketer.

I look forward to hearing back from you and dive deeper into the selection process.

Best,

Barry

Ta-da! You’re all set!

You have the perfect CV, the perfect cover letter and you’re now ready to pack everything together and send your application via email.

Bonus Track: Clean up your social media

via GIPHY

Actually.

There is one more little thing that needs to be done in order to make your application really really perfect.

I’m telling you this because it is important to give a good impression on social media by lying.

— Maria (@marianettle) June 3, 2015

Hire a private investigator (or me if I’m bored) and ask him to turn the internet upside down in search of some dirt about you. As much as you consider yourself an amazing human being, that time you made fun of coat-hanger abortions on Twitter may not be well perceived by everybody.

Delete the tweet and, since you’re at it, replace it with a photoshopped picture of you hugging a koala bear (which, in my opinion, is exactly what restored Luke Perry’s public image after 90210).

Bingo – you’re all set!

How to Improve the Students’ Standard of English
Good morning, boys and girls.

First and foremost, I wish to thank the Principal for granting me permission to speak at this morning’s assembly. The topic of my talk is ‘How to Improve Your English’. This talk is also an appropriate introduction to our English Language Week which begins today.

All of you know the importance of English. It is the language of knowledge, international communication and trade. I know that most of you want to improve your English but are not sure how to go about it. I am going to tell you how to do it. I know the methods work because they have worked for me.

The very first thing you have to do is to read more. Read newspapers, books and magazines. There is no other way that is more effective than reading. There are no short-cuts to mastering the English Language. You have to read more and you have to do it for some time before you can see the results.

You can also attend English tuition classes. The more time you spend studying the language, the better you will be. At such classes, you will be taught grammar, sentence construction, common errors and so on. All this will improve your understanding of English.

Studying how to write English is not enough. You have to learn how to speak it. In fact, when you go for job interviews or start working, the ability to speak English is very important. If you cannot converse with the interviews in English, you will probably not be given the job. You will likely have to speak to your boss in English or you may have to conduct meetings in English. You may also have to speak to potential clients or customers in English. If you cannot speak English well, it will be a very big disadvantage. When you first start to speak English, you will surely make mistakes. Never mind, carry on doing it and one day you will find that you can speak English very fluently. As the saying goes, ‘Practice makes perfect’.

Another way to improve your English is to correspond with English pen-pals. If you correspond with people who are not native speakers of the language, you may learn wrong English from them. So, the best way to avoid learning bad English is to learn it from the native speakers themselves.

An interesting way to learn English is to go and see English films. From the films you can learn how the language is spoken, the ways English words are pronounced and the situations in which certain words, phrases or sentences are used. At the same time, you would be enjoying the films.

Listening to English programmes over the radio is also a very effective way of learning English. As the English on our local stations may be suspect, tune in to the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) which has impeccable English. In fact, one very famous Oscar-winning American actor learnt his English in the same way. At first, he spoke English like an uneducated man but after months of listening to the BBC, he spoke like a graduate from one of the top British universities.

The next method is like going to the cinema to see English films. However, instead of going to the cinema, you do it at home. You can watch English films on television. Try not to look at the subtitles at all. Try to catch what the actors and actresses are saying. It will be difficult at first but you will be able to do it with more practice.

A very bold but guide effective way of learning English is to act in English plays. Join the school drama society or an amateur acting club. When you act in a play, you have to memorise your lines and give life to them. I cannot think of a more effective way of learning English than this because the English you have memorised will stay with you forever.

You can also take part in elocution contests. Writing the speech you have to deliver, memorising it and then delivering it will really improve your English. You will learn not only how to write English but also how to speak it.

Taking part in debates is also a very good method of improving your English but your English must already be quite good before you can do it. This is very different from taking part in dramas or elocution contests where you just have to memorise what you have to say. In debates, you have to attack or rebut the points put forward by your opponents. There is no way you can prepare beforehand what you want to say. You have to do everything on the spur of the moment. That takes quite a good command of the language. So, take part in debates only when your English is up to standard.

One very important thing you must do if you want to be very good at English is always to check the meanings of words that you do not know in a good dictionary. Many students are too lazy to do this. They only try to guess the meanings of the words. This will not do for almost a hundred times out of a hundred, they will guess the meaning wrongly. The dictionary will give you the exact meanings. In the beginning, you may have to check the meanings of almost every word. However, when your vocabulary improves, you will have to check the meanings of fewer and fewer words.

Another very important thing is you have to correct the pronunciation of many of your words. You have heard many words pronounced wrongly by many people and you are pronouncing them the same way they do. You may think that just because many people pronounce the words that way, the pronunciation must be correct. This is not true. Many words are wrongly pronounced. A few examples are ‘deposit’, ‘divorce’, ‘hostel’, development’ and ‘preservative’. The ‘de’ in ‘deposit’ is pronounced as ‘di’ and not ‘dep’. The ‘di’ in ‘divorce’ is pronounced as ‘di’ and not ‘dai’. The ‘tel’ in ‘hostel’ is pronounced as ‘ti’ and not ‘tell’. The correct pronunciation for the ‘de’ in ‘development’ is ‘di’ and not ‘dare’. The ‘pre’ in ‘preservative’ is actually pronounced as ‘pri’ and not ‘prare’.

The most commonly mispronounced letter is ‘O’. It is seldom pronounced ‘oh’ but rather ‘eh’. The dictionary will show you how to pronounce the letter ‘O’. For example, ‘police’ is not pronounced ‘polis’ but rather ‘pelis’. ‘Consider’ is not pronounced ‘konside’ but rather ‘kenside’. The word ‘monopoly’ is frequently mispronounced. It is not ‘monopoli’ but rather ‘menopeli’. ‘Coconut’ is not ‘kokonat’ but rather ‘kokenat’. Remember that if a word has only one ‘O’, it is seldom pronounced as ‘oh’, and no matter how many ‘O’s’ a word has in its middle part, only one of them is pronounced as ‘oh’. However, if the letter’O’ is at the beginning of a word such as ‘oppose’ and ‘object’, it is usually pronounced as ‘oh’.

Get someone to teach you the pronunciation symbols or learn them yourself. After that check the pronunciation of every word before you use it in your speech.

I have given you a few ways in which you can improve your English. You may know other ways. Use them to improve your English. It is for your own good and the good of the country.

Before I step down from the rostrum, I would like to say, ‘LONG LIVE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE!’

Thank you very much.

    ENROLL NOW

Companies are looking for Cloud DBA, Are you ready with Oracle Database 12c ?

Oracle Database is now cloud ready with Multitenant Architecture (CDB & PDB), Are you ready ?

Consolidation is an important business strategy to reduce the costs of infrastructure and operational expenses. In many production database servers, a big portion of CPU cycles go unused. By consolidating many databases into fewer database servers, both the hardware and operational staff can be more effectively utilized.

Oracle’s new pluggable database feature introduced in database 12c reduces the risk of consolidation because the DBA can easily plug or unplug an existing database to or from a container database. There is no need to change any code in the application.

Among all the IT/computer best jobs in a recent CNN.com Best Jobs in America report, Database Administrator job has the highest job growth forecast (30% increase) for the next 5 years until 2023. www.cnn.com also published an article recently that Database Administrators stand # 98 out of 100 BEST AMERICA JOBS

    They need you…..

    That’s where YOU come in…

Transitioning to the cloud inevitably involves change in the data center, and testing has traditionally relied on developing scripts, manual testing exercises or third party tools. They can provide a limited testing environment, but can leave IT organizations exposed to risk and failures when changes go live.

Today, Companies need skilled Oracle Database professionals, who are able to:

    • Understand Oracle Multitenant databases
    • Manage Database Clouds
    • Understand and Reducing Risks of Getting to the Cloud
    • Patch, Clone & Upgrade Database 12c
    • Bring services back quickly in case they go down because of any issues
    • Understand new security concepts introduced in Oracle Multitenant

And by the end of this class, you’ll possess all of these skills, and so much more…

    Best Affordable Online MBA Programs

Regional accreditation is the most common accreditation—over 85% of online schools in the United States are regionally accredited. Regionally accredited online MBA programs ensure that you’ll have a wide variety of credit transfer options and will be eligible for tuition reimbursement programs.

Demand for MBA graduates is also growing. Payscale reports that an MBA with a focus on finance will bring an average mid-career salary of $120,000 while more traditional MBA majors like marketing will bring an average of $116,000.

We undertook a detailed survey looking at 164 schools offering 462 regionally accredited online MBA programs. Our research revealed an online MBA program can cost you as little as $8,031 or as much as $64,720!

    Average Cost (In-state): $25,869.48
Least Expensive: Eastern New Mexico University ~ $8,030.70
Most Expensive: University of the Sciences ~ $64,720.00

Our MBA rankings are data-driven. We calculate total tuition plus fees and award only the MBA online programs that are more affordable than the national average. The online MBA programs listed above the red dividing line are official 2016 “Best Buys” and cost less than the national average.

Accreditation Note: To qualify for this ranking, the program must be regionally accredited.

14 Program is no longer accepting new students.
35 This program is no longer online. It is now offered in a hybrid format.

Rankings Note: These online MBA program rankings are based on a Spring 2016 distance learning survey of regionally accredited or accredited university candidates which offer online master’s in Business Administration. Tuition and fees stated were valid at the time of collection (Spring 2016) and reflect part-time attendance rates. Profiles for each distance degree in the Get Educated online college directory may reflect slightly different costs based on a different update schedule. The published cost is an estimated sticker price for the entire online MBA program and typically reflects the most affordable, cheapest distance degree program. Factors such as transfer credits at entrance, prerequisite online course requirements, and financial aid will affect your final purchase price.

Editorial Note: Colleges NEVER pay to be included in the Get Educated online MBA rankings. These rankings are editorially independent, open to any regionally accredited university which offers a degree that is delivered at least 75% at a distance and open to the public. There is no cost to use the Get Educated Best Buy award seals, should your degree appear on these rankings. If your online university is regionally accredited and not currently surveyed by Get Educated, please contact us for inclusion.

Boise State MBA Program Ranked Once Again: “Best Online MBA Programs” 2016

    January 20, 2016  /

    Categories:  Home page news stories

Boise State University has been known for the use of innovation and creativity to best meet the needs of its students – and it shows. According to the U.S. News and World Report, Boise State’s Online MBA program was rated among the “Best Online MBA Programs.” The program is better than ever and continues to improve every year through the efforts of the faculty and staff at Boise State.

The program began in the fall of 2013 and was developed to provide the best graduate education for a new segment of students. Brian O’Morrow, director of the online MBA program, said the program was developed to reach high tech, enthusiastic professionals seeking an affordable and convenient online MBA program.

“Online students receive the same quality education that on-campus students receive,” O’Morrow said, “while having the flexibility to compete the coursework in as little as 12 months.”

Through completion, students gain new insight and creativity on how to transform business practices and take control of their bright futures.

Ranked on the coveted “Best Online MBA Programs” in 2015 and 2016, Boise State’s online program continues to prove itself among the best in the country. This year Boise State’s online MBA program ranked #79, up from #97 last year,  among institutions across the nation.

Former Dean, Patrick Shannon, explained one of the many reasons for its recognition: “All of Boise State’s graduate business degrees are accredited by AACSB International — the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the gold standard of accreditation. Boise State’s is the only graduate business program in the Treasure Valley to achieve this distinction.”

The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Rank the Top 25 Online MBA Programs for 2016

    Tuesday, September 20, 2016 – 09:00

NEW YORK, Sept. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — The Princeton Review ( www.princetonreview.com ) today released its second annual ranking of b-schools offering the best online MBA programs, in partnership this year with Entrepreneur magazine ( www.entrepreneur.com ). The Online MBA rankings are the first based on both surveys of administrators at the schools and of students attending the online MBA programs. The lists are available at www.princetonreview.com/online-mba and at www.entrepreneur.com/top-online-mba . The full rankings are published in the October issue of Entrepreneur, available on newsstands September 27.

The company chose the schools based on its surveys in 2015-16 of more than 90 business schools offering online MBAs (at which a majority of their program was online), plus surveys of over 3,800 students enrolled in the programs.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School captured the #1 spot on the top 25 list and Indiana University-Bloomington’s Kelley School of Business finished second, both for the second year in a row. Temple University in Philadelphia, PA came in third. The list of top 25 schools follows and is posted at www.princetonreview.com/online-mba as well as at entrepreneur.com/top-online-mba along with in-depth profiles of the schools and advice for applicants.

The Princeton Review developed its survey methodology and criteria for this ranking based on input from editors of its annual Best 294 Business Schools guidebook (which includes top-20 b-school rankings in 11 categories), and an advisory board of administrators at several of the nation’s leading online MBA programs. The criteria focused on five core areas: academics, selectivity, faculty, technical platforms, and career outcomes. Data points were weighted in more than 60 unique fields to determine the final ranking. A description of the methodology is at www.princetonreview.com/online-mba/top-25-methodology .

“Each of our top 25 schools offers a first-rate online MBA program,” said Robert Franek, Senior VP-Publisher, The Princeton Review. “Like highly-successful businesses, these highly-respected b-schools are serving their customers with innovative options. For working professionals unable to move to a ‘brick and mortar’ campus for an MBA, these schools offer an opportunity to learn from some of the world’s best b-school professors and earn the degree from anywhere in the world.”

“The programs in the Top 25 Online MBA list present promising opportunities for entrepreneurs who wish to pursue or continue their education while growing their business at the same time,” says Jason Feifer, executive editor of Entrepreneur magazine. “We’re thrilled to partner with The Princeton Review and to share this list with entrepreneurs seeking to invest in their future.”

    – 52% of the students identified themselves as “career changers” (an increase from 47% last year)
    – Asked why they chose their specific schools, the answer choices most selected were: reputation (85%), convenience (76%), price (45%), and field of study (37%)
    – 90% rated the technology platform of their coursework as “excellent” or “above average”
    – 94% reported they were “very” or “extremely” satisfied with their school choice

How do Online MBA students and On-Campus MBA students differ?

    – Online students are older; the average age is 35 while the average age of on-campus MBA students is 28
    – Work experience: online MBA students average 11 years of work experience; on campus MBA students average 5 years
